EURO 2022 will be different than any other championships before. We wish to ENGAGE and CONNECT people through their passion for handball. It will be much more than just a series of games, it will bring two colorful weeks full of fun with a wide spectrum of experiences with the message we created:
WATCH GAMES. SEE MORE.
Hungary and Slovakia will be the hosts of the most prestigious European competition of handball in January 13-30, 2022. During the competition we are aiming not only to grab the hardcore sports fans’ attention, but also those youngsters who constantly seek for new experiences, without being familiar with the exciting world of this sport. We want the whole event to be a source of inspiration for both groups.
For this reason, we will not be communicating EHF EURO 2022 as a sport event. But rather as a festival. An opportunity for people to enjoy sports – and more! And an opportunity for us to engage and connect people in many-many different ways.
We can offer you limitless extra possibilities: culture, gastronomy, events and all the experiences, Hungary and Slovakia can offer. To get a taste of Hungary’s and Slovakia’s culture, gastronomy, hospitality, parties, and by participating they will have the kind of experience, they never had before.
“We would like to organize an event that is a real festival and sets a new standard in the world of sport events. Accessibility and affordability were our two main rally calls. We guarantee premium quality at great value for money. It aspires to be much MORE than a series of games.” said Szabolcs Bíró, CEO of Eurohandball 2022 Ltd.
Our emblem is not a sport event logo, but an emblem which carries the values of our concept, reflects the brand claim, catchy enough for the younger eyes and still it carries a hint for the sport. With the eye we are referring to what can be seen beyond the EHF EURO 2022, and the arm and ball shape clearly represent handball. This is what our brand concept is about: WATCH GAMES. SEE MORE.
Hosting cities and schedule
We will connect five cities in two countries. Bratislava and Košice in Slovakia, and Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged in Hungary. During the 17 playing days of the tournament the fans can experience 65 of the best games in handball. Preliminary rounds conducted in round robin will take place in all six cities, from where the two best seeded teams from each group will elevate into the main round. So from 20 January 2022 the best twelve teams move into Bratislava and Budapest from where through single eliminations the top six will participate in the final weekend, that is 28-31 January 2022, in Budapest.
Besides the fantastic fans of handball we strive to expand our scope and reach those, who are not necessarily handball fans yet but open to activities and represent a younger generation. We are offering the atmosphere of a giant festival, where you can also get introduced to new ways of enjoyment: the excitement of cheering for your team, the unique feeling of being in a stadium filled with people and the unique adventure of becoming a handball fan.
During the more than two weeks several foreign stars will be featured as part of the event, and we would like to present that this event is not just about handball, not just WATCH GAMES. It is about SEE MORE.
It is a long-term strategic goal by the EHF to present and endear this dynamic, spectacular sport for the younger generation. Following this concept we aim to make EHF EURO 2022 more than just a series of matches.
